Building Tasmania’s Future

The Building and Construction Roundtable is the Tasmanian Government’s collaborative approach to opportunities and challenges within the sector.

The roundtable brings together sector leaders, agencies and key stakeholders, including:

  • Australian Institute of Architects
  • Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania
  • Consult Australia
  • Engineers Australia Tasmania
  • Housing Industry Association
  • Keystone
  • Master Builders Tasmania
  • Property Council of Australia
  • Local Government Association of Tasmania
  • Tasmanian Government.

The Building and Construction Roundtable was first convened in response to the impacts of COVID-19 on the local industry. In May 2022 members signed the Building Tasmania’s Future Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) [link].

The MOU sets out shared principles and goals for government and industry, for ongoing investment in infrastructure. Through commitment and collaboration between members, we can continue to build and maintain a viable Tasmanian construction industry, developing its capacity and capability to deliver infrastructure, as key to Tasmania’s economic and social prosperity.

The MOU includes a clause that that enables it to be reviewed every three years. In early 2025, to refocus the roundtable’s combined efforts where they are needed most and reflect the priorities of the day, the Tasmanian Government commenced a process to revise the focus on delivering housing across the State. The roundtable met on 6 February 2025 to discuss the new focus and agree on a new MOU.
