Road and rail networks

Tasmania’s land transport network facilitates freight movement to and from key export and intermodal points, industrial and population centres, and regions.

The Burnie to Hobart corridor is Tasmania’s primary freight corridor, carrying the highest freight volumes.

Many businesses rely on regional freight networks to move product between primary production, processing centres and export points.

The majority of Tasmania’s freight is carried by road. Rail is important in meeting the needs of key bulk freight customers, and also carries intermodal freight between Burnie and Brighton.
