Spirit Quay project

TT-Line, TasPorts and the Department of State Growth have been working together to develop the infrastructure needed to welcome the two new Spirit of Tasmania vessels to the state.

A steering committee comprising Tasmanian Government representatives, TT-Line and TasPorts has been developed to provide strategic leadership and oversight around temporary and permanent berthing options for the new vessels.

This has included the recent release of a report by the Department of State Growth that allowed Government to make the important decision to focus on the delivery of Spirit Quay Devonport, rather than investing significant public funds into modifying the Spirit of Tasmania’s existing berth to temporarily accommodate the new vessels with constrained operations.

The Department of State Growth’s Project Review and Assurance will continue to provide the required oversight to ensure the project is being delivered as efficiently as possible and in the best interest of Tasmania.

The steering committee will continue to meet regularly and provide advice to the Tasmanian Government around the Spirit Quay project and arrangements for the arrival of the new vessels.

Update - 13 February 2025

Work at Berth 3 in Devonport is progressing well with fixed shore piling nearing completion, construction of the foundations for a southern retaining wall underway, and concrete pouring to begin soon.

The sewer and stormwater works have been completed.

Activity is happening off site, with a crane and a 48-metre-tall custom-made piling rig being mounted to a barge that will be used in the next stage of construction.

With activity set to ramp up on site over the coming weeks, work hours on site are set to be expanded to ensure works can be completed as quickly as possible.
