Glenorchy sports centre
Infrastructure Tasmania is managing the planning and delivery of the new Glenorchy Sports Centre, which is a four-court indoor community multi-sports centre. The new facility will be situated at the entry to Claremont College in the northern suburbs of Glenorchy. This facility is designed to support various sports, including basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball, pickleball and wheelchair sports and will include:
- Four multi-use sport courts
- Change rooms for players, visitors, and staff
- A kiosk and multi-purpose space
- Storage and plant zones
- Parking for up to 70 vehicles
- Active transport options
The location was selected after a thorough evaluation of 17 potential host sites, which were reviewed independently by Taplin Consulting and assessed by All Urban Planning and ARTAS for land use, title issues, and geo-technical considerations.
The Claremont College site was selected as the preferred choice based on the site’s suitability, accessibility, space availability, and development readiness. The government has allocated up to $28 million in funding for the Glenorchy Sports Centre, with plans to adapt the original design created for Wilkinsons Point to fit the new site which will help to streamline the delivery project’s timeline.
