Project update 12 May 2025

Following original plans for a single new community sports complex at Wilkinson’s Point in Hobart, the Tasmanian Government is planning new sports facilities across three southern Tasmanian municipalities, in Glenorchy, Brighton and Kingsborough. These facilities will enhance access to community sports in Southern Tasmania, creating accessible sports hubs that meet the diverse needs of Tasmania’s athletes and residents.

Glenorchy Sports Centre

A development application has been lodged with Glenorchy City Council and will be released for public exhibition shortly, giving the community a chance to see the plans and share their feedback.

Jack Jumpers High Performance Training Centre

On 10 May 2024, the government confirmed support for establishing the Tasmania Jack Jumpers' High Performance Training Centre in Kingston, with a commitment to maintaining the community sports facility’s development in Glenorchy.

Brighton Gymnastics Facility

In Brighton, planning is underway to develop a new gymnastics’ facility for the Hobart Gymnastics Academy, with the Tasmanian Government committing funding to support gymnastics development in southern Tasmania. A site selection process has been initiated and a business case commissioned, and plans are being advanced to put the case to the Australian Government to secure additional funding.
