Update on New Multi-Sport Facilities in Southern Tasmania

The Tasmanian Government is advancing plans to establish new sports facilities across three municipalities, enhancing access to community sports in Southern Tasmania.

Originally planned as a single sports complex at Wilkinson’s Point, Glenorchy, the project has now been strategically restructured to provide dedicated facilities in Glenorchy, Brighton, and Kingsborough.

High-Performance Centre for the Tasmania Jack Jumpers

On 10 May 2024, the government confirmed support for establishing the Tasmania Jack Jumpers' high-performance centre in Kingston, with a commitment to maintaining the community sports facility’s development in Glenorchy.

Brighton Gymnastics Facility

In Brighton, planning is underway to develop a new gymnastics’ facility for the Hobart Gymnastics Academy, with the Tasmanian Government committing funding to for support gymnastics development in southern Tasmania. A site selection process has been initiated and a business case commissioned, and plans are being advanced to put the case to the Australian Government to secure funding for this new sports infrastructure.

Development application

The development application for the Glenorchy sports centre is expected to proceed once all the necessary project documentation and studies for this new location are complete, ensuring a smooth approval process. The application is expected to be lodged in Q1 2025.

The new Glenorchy sports centre, Brighton gymnastics facility, and Kingsborough high-performance training centre will bring substantial benefits to southern Tasmania, creating accessible sports hubs that meet the diverse needs of Tasmania’s athletes and residents.
