Project Status Update 27 November 2025

Major construction activities at the Tasmania JackJumpers and Jewels High Performance Training Centre continue to progress well. We have completed the roofing works, and the external cladding is almost complete, and with these key components coming together, the project remains on track to reach lock-up by Christmas.

Construction commenced in June 2025 and continues to run to schedule, with overall completion expected in mid-2026. Once complete, the Centre will serve as the home of both the Tasmania JackJumpers and the Tasmania Jewels.

To coincide with the roofing milestone, representatives from Infrastructure Tasmania, the Tasmania JackJumpers, Kingborough Council, Fairbrother and subcontractors attended an onsite BBQ acknowledging progress to date. The event provided an opportunity for future users and the construction team to meet and participate in a guided tour of works underway.

The event also raised funds for the Kingston Sea Scouts, who have generously supported the project by providing their clubrooms as a temporary site office during construction.

Building on existing engagement activities with Beacon Foundation and Kingston High School, Fairbrother also hosted Year 9 and 10 Design and Technologies students from St Virgil’s College in early November. Students toured the facility, spoke with project managers and construction staff, and observed how classroom learning connects with industry practice. These activities reflect the broader community benefits of the project, including support for education and future career pathways for young Tasmanians.

From 5 January 2026, TasWater infrastructure upgrades supporting the new Tasmania JackJumpers and Jewels High Performance Training Centre will begin and continue for approximately 6 weeks. There will be minor impacts to residents and road users in the vicinity of Nolan Crescent, Summerleas Road and the Huon Highway, we are working closely with affected stakeholders to minimise disruption.

Further information and updates will be provided as the Tasmania JackJumpers and Jewels High Performance Training Centre continues to take shape.

Project update 28 August 2025

Construction of the new JackJumpers High Performance Training Centre is on track, delivering this state-of-the-art facility that will support both Tasmania’s NBL team, the JackJumpers, and the recently announced WNBL team, the Jewels.

Last week, the Beacon Foundation and students from Kingston High School were welcomed on site by builder Fairbrother, for a special project visit. Students had the opportunity to watch the foundation slab being completed and hear directly from first-year and fourth-year apprentices about their experiences working on the project.

The visit gave students a first-hand look at the scale of the development and an insight into the planning, design and construction pathways involved in delivering major infrastructure projects. Opportunities like these help inspire the next generation by showing how careers in building, design and project management create facilities that will benefit the Tasmanian community.

Once complete, the new training centre will provide a dedicated home for Tasmania’s elite basketball teams and broader community benefits, including opportunities for young people to connect with sport at the highest level.

Following original plans for a single new community sports complex at Wilkinson’s Point in Hobart, the Tasmanian Government is planning new sports facilities across three southern Tasmanian municipalities, in Glenorchy, Brighton and Kingsborough. These facilities will enhance access to community sports in Southern Tasmania, creating accessible sports hubs that meet the diverse needs of Tasmania’s athletes and residents.
